Sandown & Shanklin Lifeboat Station

This fantastic Inshore Lifeboat based on the coast line between Sandown and Shanklin is run by dedicated volunteers. They can give small talks about the Lifeboat, what is involved in call-out, water safety etc. They would like to encourage awareness of the Lifeboat and what to do if their is an emergency at sea. These talks can be incorporated into a free evening that will be spent on the beach, lasting approximately 30 minutes.

Queen Victoria’s Parish Church when in residence at Osborne House, designed by Prince Albert. A guide will give a talk to pupils.

The Church is one of a tiny band of small village churches which have become closely linked with neighbouring Royal residences and therefore have a very great many beautiful, interesting and historical features.

Sue Bailey, Storyteller

Sue has been telling tales for the past twelve years for local and visiting schools.  If you prefer something more individually tailored for your group, just ask, but if you need some other suggestions what about:

Myths and legends of the Isle of Wight (can  include tales  of Queen Victoria; or Charles I ‘s failed escape from Carisbrooke Castle;  or Uffa Fox -inventor of airborne life raft used in WWII; or Saunders Roe - inventor of hovercraft; or other local tales to fit in with group’s itinerary)

Seaside tales ( including tales such as ‘Why the sea is salty’ or ‘Why the crab has no head’) This can be combined with a seaside story walk  in which we look for beach treasure such as limpets and crabs.
